This week we used the 100's square to count in 2's, 5's and 10's. Ada noticed we could count in different ways and showed us how to count in 4's. Fantastic work!

Bear Snores On!

Last week Year 1 made a fire and we read our new story 'Bear Snores On'.

We acted out parts of the story and played all the different characters.

Who crept into the bear's lair?

Next Week

Next week we will continue our learning on instructions!

Can you find any instructions at home? Why don't you bring them in to show us?

Meteorologists in the making!

Today, Year 1 put on their scientist hats! We are learning about the weather, and we will be measuring how much it rains in the different seasons.

Today we made our own rain gauges so that we can perform this experiment.

Have a look at how well we worked to follow instructions and make our rain gauges. Some of the steps were quite tricky!

First, we cut the top off a bottle.

Look how careful Ameen and Pixie are.
(But watch out for your fingers!)

Next, we had to turn the top of the bottle upside down, and tape it onto the bottom half.

We don't want it to fall apart...

Then we used a ruler to make a measuring scale.

Finally we took our rain gauges outside. We dug little holes to make sure that they don't blow away!

Next week we will be checking our rain gauges to measure how much it rains each day during the autumn!

It was fantastic and we all had a great time! (Oh yes we did!)

Future Cooks

We have been reading The Runaway Pancake in English this week, and today we put on our Chef hats and put our hands to making our own pancakes!

We poured, measured and weighed all the ingredients, melted butter, poured in the batter and even flipped our own pancakes.

Have a look at all the fun we had!

Jamil carefully poured out pancake batter...

...and Manha flipped her pancake like a pro!

Exciting Science

In Year 1 this week we have been learning all about our 5 senses.

We started by learning a song to help us remember the names of the senses, and which body parts we use for them.

Then we started to use our senses in an experiment.

We moved around different stations in the classroom to describe what we could see, hear, feel and smell.

After all of that excitement, we tried to describe some different foods using our sense of taste.

It was a really fun experience, and it helped us to use some amazing vocabulary to describe the different experiences at each Sense Station!

Year One had a fantastic trip to Eureka! Science Museum last week.

We took part in a Gross Lab learning abogut all the icky stuff our bodies make and how it helps us.

Then we got to explore the museum.
We saw huge teeth and a massive nose.

We got to be enterprising and role play as doctors, midwives, nurses and event dentists

We even got to be curious about what is inside of our own bodies!

What a fantastic experience to start Year 1!
